I use Giant Hoxton watercolour paper, which comes in a roll 6 ft x 5ft from Jackson’s art. I cut it down to size and use an ochre wash under my drawings.

Since our chance exchange on Facebook back in 2020, art has given me so much which wouldn’t have happened without you..

Comment on “Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot” – Colour Temperature For The Artist by Julie Campbell https://www.unisoncolour.com/blog/feeling-hot-hot-hot-colour-temperature-for-the-artist/#comment-248967 Fri, 31 Oct 2025 19:07:29 +0000 https://www.unisoncolour.com/?post_type=blog&p=155346#comment-248967 Wonderful article, as usual Mr. Fuller, with fabulous reference paintings.
So, in the last image
– the tones/values appear the same when changed to grey scale
– the temperatures appear as different.
I have a lot of trouble recognizing similar tones of different colours and only seem to be able to see the differences when they are in grey scale.
Hopefully, this is easier with time – seems to be taking eons to learn.

Most importantly she imbues them with soul – the shared excitement at her beautiful surroundings.

Of course I am very lucky to live in the same area and will never tire of the wonderful Wiltshire landscapes! It’s been great to meet Cathy, to have some lessons from her, and to have two of her paintings in our home.

I absolutely love those blue shadows but the apples on the ground painting is absolutely my cup of tea – so abundant and a celebration of colour and hedgerows!

They’re my favourite medium.
